NextGen Leaders for Public Service Internship Host Site Application
The Schaefer Center for Public Policy at the University of Baltimore’s College of Public Affairs is accepting host site applications for the NextGen Leaders for Public Service Internship Program. The program provides dynamic, motivated students interested in exploring careers in public service the opportunity to apply what they learn in the classroom to support the mission of while developing their leadership skills and gaining real-world experience.
This competitive program places junior- and senior-level undergraduate and graduate students into paid internships with state, local, and municipal government agencies or in a Maryland nonprofit. Interns can come from any
program offered by the University of Baltimore including Public Administration, Negotiations and Conflict Management, Cyber Forensics, Cybersecurity, Criminal Justice, Global Affairs and Human Security, Health Systems Management, Human Services Administration, Accounting, Applied Information Technology, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Business Administration, Business-Finance, Computer Programming, Government Financial Management, Digital Communication, Marketing Communications, Nonprofit Management and Social Entrepreneurship, Information and Interaction Design, Information Systems and Technology Management, Integrated Design, and Simulation and Game Design.
Internships must offer students a meaningful learning experience that provides students with a real-world work experience that utilizes their academic skills aligned to their program of study. Interns must be supervised by a professional and must be given training and resources needed to complete their assigned duties. Internship supervisors are expected to provide regular feedback and to complete a written evaluation of their intern at the conclusion of the internship.
Interns may work between 10 – 19.5 hours/week during the semester and will be placed with a host site based on the following term schedules:
- Fall (15-weeks): Aug. 28 – Dec.17, 2024;
- Spring (15-weeks): Jan. 29 – May 13, 2025; and
- Summer (12 weeks): May 21 – Aug. 12, 2025.
